Mama Rise: a space for growth, connection, and action for mothers

Over the past few months, we have begun implementing the Mama Rise training program, a proposal designed to support mothers on their journey of personal growth, well-being, and civic participation. And we’re thrilled to see how it’s taking shape across the three participating countries! Every week, groups of mothers gather in Spain, Poland, and Latvia to share, learn, and grow together.

This program combines in-person sessions with access to the online Moodle platform, where participants can find materials, resources, and practical tools to continue learning at their own pace. The platform offers content on well-being and mental health, mindfulness, sustainability principles, and community project management.

During the in-person sessions, the groups have explored self-awareness, practiced mindfulness and breathing techniques, and discovered new ways to take care of themselves as mothers, women, and active citizens.

A key part of the program focuses on sustainability and environmental action. We’ve talked about how to reduce waste at home by applying the principles of refuse, reduce, reuse, and repair, sharing tips and practical ideas for living more consciously and sustainably. We’ve also exchanged recipes and discussed how to plan healthy, affordable, and eco-friendly family meals.

But Mama Rise goes beyond personal development. It also invites mothers to look outward and create impact in their communities. We’ve begun imagining and planning our own community actions, using tools like the problem tree, the elevator pitch, and social project management methodologies.

Each country has its own unique context. In Poland and Latvia, most of the participants are Ukrainian mothers who have fled the war. In Spain, many are immigrant mothers from Colombia, Morocco, or Ecuador. Despite the differences, we are all connected by a deep desire to build a better life, support one another, and feel part of a welcoming community.

What moves us the most is hearing mothers say that Mama Rise has become a space of strength, inspiration, and trust. A place where they can open up, feel heard, share their cultures, improve their English or local language skills, and reconnect with their own inner power.

Some mothers have told us that our meetings feel like a breath of fresh air in their week—a small oasis in the middle of their routines and responsibilities. A space where they can believe in themselves again.

We will continue walking this path together, eager to keep learning and building community.

This project is made possible thanks to the collaboration with AWR NGO in Poland and Creative Ideas in Latvia, and with the support of Erasmus Plus, through the Spanish National Agency SEPIE.
